Baudouin, colonel of infantry, knight of the Royal and Military Order of St. Louis and lieutenant of grenadiers in the Regiment of the French Guards. S.l., 1757, in-folio, [3] ff. n. ch. (title-frontispice, title after Bouchardon, warning), 62 beautiful etched plates in black, numbered 2-63 (number 1 was given to the title-frontispice), mounted on tabs, 16 pp. (Extrait de l'Ordonnance du Roy du 6 may 1755), one f. n. ch. of table, all fully engraved, small paper repair to plate 56, caramel calf, ornate ribbed spine, Du Seuil-style decoration on covers, central medallion with gilded decoration on a beige patch, double fillet on edges, fleurdelys inner border, gilt edges (Weill). First edition, the only one in folio format (the 1759 edition was in in-8 format), of this entirely engraved work. One of the finest suites of uniforms and positions, produced with great finesse and precision for the new infantry regulations of 1755. A good copy with very wide margins from the famous De Ridder collection, with the collector's iron on the plates showing a man in armor holding a sword and shield in a circular ring. (Joints fragile with beginning of crack at lower jaw).
