S.l [Paris], 1760, in-12, fawn tortoiseshell calf, smooth spine cloisonné and fleuronné, cherry title page, triple gilt fillet on covers, single gilt fillet on edges, red edges (period binding). Rare first edition. A precious copy of Gabriel de Sartine (1729-1801), famous lieutenant-general of the Paris police force, then minister of the navy under Louis XV, with ex-libris vignette pasted on the first endpapers. cf. OHR 74-6 (for a binding iron very similar to our bookplate). (Joints a little damaged, marginal traces of moisture on the first white endpapers, small marginal tear on the faux-titre).
