55. BOISSY D'ANGLAS (François-Antoine I). Draft constitution for the French Republic, and preliminary speech delivered by Boissy d'Anglas on behalf of the Commission of the Eleven, in the session of 5 Messidor Year III [23 June 1795]. Printed by order of the National Convention. Beauvais, Imprimerie du département de l'Oise, messidor an III, (June 1795), in-8, 154 pp., tobacco cardboard, smooth spine (modern binding). Fairly heavy freckles.
The Commission of the Eleven had been formed by the post-Thermidorian Convention to draft a new constitution in place of that of Year II, which the revolutionary bourgeoisie did not want at any cost. Within this commission, the moderating role of Boissy d'Anglas (1756-1826) was quickly preponderant, and it was partly he who had to draft the articles of the Constitution discussed from 3 to 17 August 1795 and which was to be that of the Directory.
