The bonheur-du-jour that we present is the one reproduced in Les ébénistes du XIXe siècle 1795-1889 Denise Ledoux-Lebard, Les éditions de l'Amateur, Paris, 2003, page 150 ; as well as L'Ameublement d'art français 1850-1900, Camille Mestdagh, Les éditions de l'Amateur, Paris, 2010, page 236 (fig. 277).

Very influenced by the decorative arts of the French eighteenth century, Dasson is inspired here by a Bonheur-du-jour model made by Weisweiler, probably after drawings by the merchant Daguerre.

The swollen base and the spacer are a simplification of the designs of English furniture of the last quarter of the 18th century.

The auction of furniture and bronzes of the house Dasson & Cie in 1894 shows the interest that Henry Dasson gave to lacquer panels from Japan and China. The sale catalog presents nearly eighty lots of Japanese lacquer objects of all kinds.

Some desks of an identical model were presented in auctions, among which :

- A secretaire auctioned in New York (Sotheby's, April 25, 2012, lot 154).

- A secretaire sold in New York (Christie's, November 26, 2013, lot 153).
