The chest of drawers we present is the one reproduced in L'Ameublement d'art français 1850-1900,

Camille Mestdagh, Les éditions de l'Amateur, Paris, 2010, page 20 (fig. 17).

The execution of this commode model corresponds to Zwiener's Parisian years and in particular to his

his cooperation with the sculptor Léon Messager (1842-1901). Their collaboration

began shortly before the presentation of a joint work at the exhibition of the Central Union of

decorative arts of 1882.

The bronzes of ornaments in the shape of heart are inspired by the tripartite division of the fronts of

commodes Louis XV and the espagnolettes, deriving from the models of Charles Cressent, are a creation of

creation of Léon Messager, recurring in the work of Emmanuel Zwiener.

In this respect, let us quote a bedroom enriched with the same ornaments in gilded bronze, presented in

New York (Sotheby's, 26 October 2006, lot 138).

Among the chests of drawers of this model, we should also mention

- A chest of drawers auctioned in New York (Sotheby's, 26 October 2006, lot 135).

- A chest of drawers offered at auction in New York (Sotheby's, October 21, 2008, lot 196).

- A chest of drawers sold in Cannes (Cannes Enchères, October 25, 2014, lot 208).

A chest of drawers identical to the one we present is illustrated in Paris, the quintessence of furniture

in the XIXth century, Christopher Payne, Monelle Hayot Editions, 2018, page 558.
