59- LE VERRIER DE LA CONTERIE (Jean-Baptiste-Jacques). L'École de la chasse aux chiens courants, précédée d'une bibliothèque historique & critique des théreuticographes. Rouen, Nicolas et Richard Lallemant, 1763, 2 parts in one vol. in-8, with 16 plates on wood out of text, several printed recto & verso, copy in which the title of the second part has been bound immediately after that of the first part, marbled fawn calf, spine ribbed, cloisonné and fleuronné, cherry title page, simple gilt fillet on the edges, red edges (period binding).

Rare first edition, complete with all parts.
The Bibliothèque historique et critique des auteurs qui ont traité de la chasse is the work of the Lallemant brothers (the printers), not of the author; it was not included in the second edition, published in 1778 under the somewhat misleading title Vénerie normande.
This hunting Bible is the result of over forty years' experience: Le Verrier de La Conterie (1718-1783), esquire to the king, was lord of Amigny, des Aulnets and other places in the good province of Normandy. Reprinted several times, this book is still an authority.
Thiébaud, 589.
A good copy.
