92-DAMPMARTIN (Anne-Henri Cabet de). Mémoires sur divers événements de la Révolution et de l'Émigration. Paris, Hubert, 1825, 2 vols. in-8, XVIII-432 pp. and 416 pp. in long-grained green half-maroquin with corners, smooth spines, gilt fillets (period binding).
First edition.

"An officer and philosopher, Dampmartin initially supported the reformist Revolution, but emigrated after June 20, 1792. After a brief stay in the Compagnie des Gentilshommes de Languedoc, he returned to civilian life" (Fierro). He recounts events in the Midi (unrest in Arles and Avignon, Lyon), followed by emigration and the army of the Princes.
Returning to France after the 18 Brumaire, he rallied to the Empire, then to the Restoration.
One of the best accounts of emigration.

A fine copy from the library of Prince Dietrichstein, tutor to Napoleon II, but without his signature.
This is an interesting provenance, given that Dampmartin himself was tutor to one of the King of Prussia's children.

Fierro, 392. Tulard, 389.
