94-DENNIÉE (Antoine). Itinéraire de l'Empereur Napoléon pendant la campagne de 1812. Paris, Paulin, 1842, in-12, 211 pp. long-grained red morocco, smooth spine decorated throughout, gilt fillets framing the covers, fillet on the edges, interior lace, gilt edges (period binding).
First edition.

Present in Spain until December 1811 as commander-in-chief of the 1st army corps, Pierre-Paul Denniée was called in by Berthier "for details relating to the staff of the grand army and the correspondence of the major-general with the intendant-general". It was in this capacity that he followed Berthier throughout the Russian campaign.
A most interesting testimony, "in particular the account of the battle of Borodino is striking. The general tone of the work is very favorable to Marshal Berthier" (Tulard).
The appendices include a number of valuable documents: a table showing the composition and strength of the corps of the Grande Armée, a list of the names of generals and colonels killed or wounded during the days of September 5 and 7, and more.

Tulard, 422. D'Huart, 442.

A fine copy.

Small ink stain on first cover.
