126-FAUCHE-BOREL (Louis). Précis historique des différentes missions dans lesquelles M. Louis Fauche-Borel a été employé, pour la cause de la monarchie, suivi de pièces justificatives. Paris, Imprimé aux frais de l'auteur, octobre 1815, in-8, [4]-220 pp. with a frontispiece by Jazet after Martinet, mahogany calf, smooth ornate spine, gilt roulette framing the boards, interior roulette, gilt edges (period binding). One of two editions published in 1815 (the other has 239 pages, and a date limited to 1815). Rare complete with frontispiece. Louis Fauche-Borel's concern in writing this Précis was to return to favor with the new regime. His support for the monarchical cause was well known, as he published the proclamations of the future king in exile during the Empire. But his successive blunders led to him being sidelined before being considered a Bonapartist agent in 1815. The text he published is therefore entirely devoted to his justification, and did not stop his wanderings across Europe, which ended in his suicide in Neuchâtel in 1829. It is a first-rate document of the intrigues, plots and espionage missions in which Fauche-Borel took part during the Revolution and Empire. Missing from Davois, Fierro and Tulard. A fine copy.
