131-FEUILLET DE CONCHES (Félix-Sébastien). Louis XVI, Marie-Antoinette and Madame Elisabeth. Lettres et documents inédits publiés par F. Feuillet de Conches. Paris, Henri Plon, 1864-1873, 6 vol. in-8, LXXII-519, 544, LXV-504, 603, 488 and CXIX-507 pp. 4 portrait-frontispices and 19 ff. autograph facsimiles, brown half-chagrin, spine ribbed, gilt fillets, red head (period binding). As soon as it was published, this collection provoked a huge controversy over the authenticity of the pieces it contained. Most of the historians and authors who wrote about the Revolution took part (Sybel, Mazade, Lescure, Geffroy, Nisard, etc.). Félix Feuillet (known as "de Conches" after his mother's name, 1798-1887) was a long-time ambassador and autograph collector, at a time when curiosity and interest in "old papers" had not yet been aroused.
