135-FLÉCHIER (Esprit). Mémoires sur les Grands-Jours tenus à Clermont en 1665-1666. Published by B. Gonod, librarian of the city of Clermont. Paris, Porquet, 1844, in-8, XXXV-462 pp., with two hors-texte plates, one of which is line-engraved, and one with double-page notated music, a copy with a Girardet portrait-frontispiece of Fléchier, a slightly folded engraved portrait by Larmessin of Nicolas Potier (Paris, veuve Bertrand, 1680), and another portrait of Denys Talon, by Tardieu, brown half-maroquin with corners, spine ribbed, gilt head (Pehrnau).

First complete edition of this text, whose manuscript, previously kept in private libraries, had just been acquired by the Bibliothèque municipale de Clermont-Ferrand.

This publication earned the author legal action from the descendants of the convicts, who obtained its withdrawal, which explains the rarity of this edition. This extraordinary session of the Parlement de Paris was part of the great reorganization of the kingdom undertaken by Louis XIV at the start of his personal reign, and was the institution's final event. Fléchier, famous orator and future prelate, attended as tutor to the children of the Garde des Sceaux Louis-François de Caumartin.
