"His book is a mine of information on all the police forces of the Restoration and, thanks to the details and names it provides, makes up for the loss of archives from this period". (Le Clère) The work had been attributed to Guyon by Quérard, an attribution taken up by J. Tulard. Marcel Le Clère rightly points out that Guyon takes Froment to task in his writings, which rules out the idea of attributing this book to him. Froment also published a Histoire de Vidocq in 1830, written after himself. Le Clère, 389.
