Gouvernante to the children of France during the Restoration, the Duchesse de Gontaut left good memoirs on emigration and the Restoration. On emigration, she left an account of her stays in Holland and England, with a good description of émigré circles. Her account of the First Restoration and her return to France is also excellent.
