198-L'ESTOILE (Pierre de). Journal inédit du règne de Henry IV. 1598-1602. Publié d'après le manuscrit de la Bibliothèque Impériale par F. Halphen. Paris, Auguste Aubry, 1862, in-8, [4]-XXI-292 pp. in blond calf, spine ribbed and decorated, arms in the center of the boards, red edges (period binding). First edition. The first edition of the part of l'Estoile's Mémoires-journaux relating to the reign of Henri IV appeared in 1719, but until the present publication, there was an irreducible gap concerning the years 1598, 1599, 1600, 1601 and the beginning of 1602. Eugène Halphen (1820-1912) has reconstructed these missing years from a manuscript that once belonged to the Jacobins Saint-Honoré convent. A fine copy with unidentified arms.
