219-LEJEUNE (Louis-François). Souvenirs of an officer of the Empire, former mayor of Toulouse. Toulouse, 1851, 2 vol. in-8, XII-III-481 (misquoted 483)-[5] pp. and 554-[2] pp. with frontispiece portrait and engraving, green half-maroquin with corners, ribbed spine, gilt head (Ritter).}

Very rare first edition.

"Popular memoirs similar in tone to those by Marbot or Thiébault" (Tulard, 891), these memoirs are also among the rarest. According to G. Bapst, who published the second, abridged edition in 1891, they were printed "in only about twenty copies, now completely lost and impossible to find..." (in 1891!). (in 1891!). The account describes the battle of Marengo, Camp de Boulogne, Austerlitz, Iéna, Eylau, Friedland, Tilsit, Spain (important for the siege of Saragossa), the Austrian War in 1809 (Eckmühl, Essling, Wagram), the Emperor's divorce and the arrival of Marie-Louise, the Spanish mission, the Russian campaign and the campaign of 1813. In short, a busy life for the man who was both a general of the Empire and a history painter.

A fine copy.
