235-LOUVILLE. Paris, Maradan, 1818, 2 vol. in-8, VIII-384 pp. and 371 pp. in speckled tawny calf, ornate ribbed spine, gilded fillets framing the covers, marbled edges (period binding). They run from 1668 to 1717, and the narrative includes numerous letters addressed to or written by Louville. They are very important for the War of the Spanish Succession, and in particular for the negotiations between the courts of Versailles and Madrid. But they are a work of passion; Louville, irritated by the difficulties he was experiencing, did not spare his adversaries: his criticisms were extremely severe and at the same time undeniably biased. His motives were the same as those that led Saint-Simon to write his memoirs. Like Saint-Simon, Louville conceals nothing and does not shy away from violent and crude expressions to pour out his bile and overwhelm those who oppose him (...)". Ex-libris Anison che Fiorische.
