242-MALUS (Etienne-Louis). L'agenda de Malus. Souvenirs de l'expédition d'Egypte, 1798-1801, published and annotated by General Thoumas. Paris, Honoré Champion, 1892, in-12, 224 pp. half-maroquin havane, ribbed spine, gilt fillet bindings, marbled head (period binding). A rare memoir by one of the scientists who took part in the Egyptian expedition. A physicist, he embarked with Caffarelli as Captain of the Engineers. He took part in the capture of Malta, the battle of the pyramids and the capture of Cairo. When the Institut d'Egypte was founded, he was appointed to the mathematics class. The monuments of ancient Egypt were of great interest to him, and he never failed to describe them, particularly when tasked with reconnaissance missions in the Nile Delta. He returned to France on August 7, 1801, after Belliard's surrender in Cairo. De Meulenaere, 141. A fine copy. Rousseurs.
