348-SOULT (Jean-de-Dieu). Memoirs. First part (only published): Histoire des guerres de la Révolution, pub. by his son. Paris, Amyot, 1854, 3 vol. in-8, XII-387 pp, 372 pp, 407 pp, blue half-maroquin with corners, ribbed spine, gilt head (modern binding).

First edition.

Marshal Soult began writing his memoirs in 1816. The 1830 Revolution and his new ministerial functions under the July Monarchy prevented him from completing this work.
As a result, only the first part of his memoirs saw the light of day. It covers the period 1791-1802 - the Alps and Pyrenees campaigns, the Vendée war, the Egyptian expedition, the first Italian campaign, Marengo, the siege of Genoa, Hohenlinden - are the main highlights of these rare memoirs.

A good copy.

Minor restoration to title and faux-title pages of volume 1, stamp.
