Oil on canvas. Signed and dated lower right.

Hostein belongs to a generation of 19th-century landscape painters who worked with Baron Taylor.
such as Bonington, Dauzats and Isabey, who left us picturesque views of our regions, some of which have
some of which have now disappeared. Topographers, archaeologists of Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance France, but also
ruinists who capture the romantic poetry of the sites. Hostein was one of Taylor's principal draughtsmen
notably for Voyages Pittoresques dans l'Ancienne France; a prolific artist, he also contributed to L'Arabie
Pétrée by M. De Laborde, Le Tour du Monde by Dumont d'Urville and a Voyage au Simplon.

Between 1833 and 1859, he exhibited some 110 paintings.

Our painting shows that Hostein also obtained private commissions as a "châteaux painter". By
late neo-classical style, the building must have been recently constructed during the Restoration. Hostein's
Hostein's painting must have strengthened the client's pride in owning such a building. The painter also knows how to
the natural poetry of the park with its varied species of trees.
