[MARCHANT DE CALIGNY] A talking binding. Acte de notoriété, given by twelve gentlemen of the province of Normandy, to Messrs. Le Marchant de Caligny. June 3, 1767. Paris, Imprimerie de Hérissant père, 1768, small in-8, with a header vignette engraved by P.-L. Cor after Marillier, f. 57-58 missing, erroneously replaced by a second printing of f. 23-24, old-red morocco, smooth spine cloisonné and fleuronné, and decorated, in place of the title-piece, with an allegorical figure (an angel holding a trumpet, symbol of fame), framed with dent-de-rat, double gilt fillet and garland on the boards, single gilt fillet on the edges, gilt edges (period binding).
Unique edition of this genealogical factum drawn up in favor of Philippe-Paul-Aimé Le Marchant de Caligny, born in 1746, then a musketeer in the King's Guard. It shows the alliances of the Le Marchant de Caligny family with the houses of Vauquelin, Durfort and Montgommery, from which the genealogies are deduced, as well as those of La Rochefoucauld and Thiard de Bissy.
Handwritten annotation on title leaf "Cet ouvrage est rempli d'extravagances; il faut avouer que ces 12 gentilshommes sont de grands généalogistes".

A fine copy.
