SCHOONHOVEN (Floris van). Emblemata partim moralia partim etiam civilia. Cum latiori eorundem ejusdem auctoris interpretatione. Accedunt et alia quaedam poëmata in aliis poëmatum surorum libris non contenta. Amsterdam, Jan Jansson, 1635, small in-4, with 74 copper engravings in the text by Crispin de Passe le Jeune; copy in which the last two ff. of the dedication (signed *3 and *4) were erroneously bound between pp. 234 and 235, fawn calf, ribbed spine cloisonné and fleuronné, double cold fillet framing on the boards, gilt edges (late 17th century binding).

Third edition (the first was addressed to Gouda, and published in 1618; the second was given by the Elzévir of Leiden in 1626) of this fine work of emblems, reproducing exactly the previous one and using the same copperplates.
A fine copy bearing the arms of the Jesuit College of Chalons-sur-Marne (founded in 1617), derived from those of the town. The work is, however, a prize copy awarded in 1662 to a student of the Collège de Reims: a long handwritten annotation on the first endpapers attests to it as a gift from the city's canons ("Ex liberalitate et munificentia enerabilium dominorum canonicorum et capituli metropolitanae Remensis Ecclesiae"), but it is regularly signed by Louis Bonvent, priest, doctor of theology, canon of Saint-Symphorien and principal of the Collège des Bons-Enfants, principal of the Collège de l'Université de Reims.

(Wet stamp of Marquis Antoine-Théodore Du Prat (1808- ?). Slight restoration to lower cover).
